NASA was one of the primary sponsors of a robotics competition which aimed to develop the next generation of technological leaders. NASA teamed up with For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) to launch the event. Around 2,000 teams participated in the contest this year.
FIRST’s goal is to generate interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This competition gave high school students the opportunity to design, build, test and complete a robot that can answer to particular requests.
NASA ensures public access to robotic programs in order to encourage youth to investigate careers in science and engineering. It also provides grants for 297 teams and sponsors four student competitions in the area.
